Formatting Your Posts: Markdown Editor @ happeningin.eu (Diaspora* Alpha Forks)

Formatting text is possible for all versions of Diaspora. The following is a cheat sheet you can use. However, with great power comes great responsibility: please please please do not abuse the formatting possibilities. It can be tedious when every post is written in boldface, large, headline size text. (Unfortunately, I do not know who to thank for the cheat sheet.)
Again, the rest of this information is no longer up-to-date, as happeningin.eu is no longer hosting a diaspora pod.
When you post a message at happeningin.eu, you now have an editor (see Figure 1) that allows you to not only format your texts but also to embed multiple links directly in your post.

The markdown editor is found along the top of the text window. A description of your options, from left to right:
1) H1 — H6 refers to different sized headers for your posts: H1 is the largest, whereas H6 is the smallest: see Figure 2 for an example.

2) B and I refer to boldface and italics. No more explanation needed, I think.
3) Lists (to the right of B and I): the first option is an itemized list, whereas the second option is a numbered list. See Figure 3 for an example of an itemized list. (NB I had problems with the numbered lists.)

Note that if you need to enlarge the text box (which when making lists I needed to do), you can drag it down by hovering over the dragdown icon (see Figure 1).
4) Include a #tag in your message.
5) Embed links to videos from YouTube, DailyMotion, and Vimeo in your post!
6) Embed mp3s and flash videos in your post!
7) Embed maps in your post!
For 5 — 7, note that multiple embeddings are possible, I believe.
